Masking the smell of alcohols So called alcohol neutralizers are compounds of low volatile materials which affect the smell of a finished product (i. e. alcohol based perfumes) as little as possible, but which mask the bad odor of not enough distilled or impure alcohol. Some alcohols contain denaturing agents with a bad smell (i. e. ketone). In this case, a masking compound helps to cover the unpleasant peak of this odor. 2. Long lasting properties
