Mount Vernon Prosperity Lidded TureenGeorge Washington had a deep affinity for stoneware and creamware and used it extensively in his home at Mount Vernon. Salt glazed fragments excavated from the grounds of the estate, in combination with the study of antiques from the same time period, provided the detailed information needed to replicate this Prosperity oval tureen. Special attention was paid to the shapes of the handles, knobs, and detail work. Salt glazed stoneware predates
