Maynard was a four time AFL All Star and played for the Super Bowl III Champions. The Jets retired Maynard's No. 13 in his honor. He was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame and included on the AFL All Time Team. Maynard died from complications of dementia, among other ailments, at a care facility in Ruidoso, New Mexico on January 10, 2022,
